Nurturing Healthy Families

The Home Based Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Network

Nurturing Healthy FamiliesThe Home Based Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Network (formerly known as the Release program) was established in early 2001 in Perth's northern suburbs to support people who want to manage their withdrawal from alcohol and drug use in their own environment. Under the scheme, an experienced nurse works closely with the person's local doctor and visits them at home regularly throughout their withdrawal.

The program was initiated in response to a need that had been identified by the Sisters of St John of God to augment the WA Drug Abuse Strategy.

The program involves assessing each client, monitoring their medication, evaluating their progress and liaising closely with their doctors. Advice, education and practical assistance are also provided.

Leviticus Loans Scheme

The Sisters of St John of God are one of the partners in this no-interest loan scheme initiated by a network of Christian agencies in WA in 1998. Donations of capital over a three year period enabled the project to get off the ground. The capital is used to provide loans to the materially disadvantaged, particularly refugees and migrants who are unable to access other support.
