.General Chapter 2007

Our Direction (2007 - 2013)

At a meeting of a special delegation of Sisters (General Chapter) held at Dromantine Conference Centre, Co Down, Northern Ireland in April 2007 the following directions were outlined for the Sisters of St John of God for the next six years.

Prelude

“Rediscovering our centre together let us make a Difference in Our World”.

Through our discernment together we have identified three Directions which we believe will enable us to make that difference. These are set in the context of Our Vision and our reality in 2007.

While we befriend the decline of the old forms of religious life, the Holy Spirit is moving us towards something new which we cannot yet name.

Religious today are called to bridge the present chaotic times so that we may enable the birth of what is struggling to unfold all around us.

This presents us with an opportunity and a challenge as an International Congregation of women religious.

Directions

WE COMMIT OURSELVES to:

  • live contemplatively in a way that will energise and shape our life and ministry.
  • be in relationship, in ways that are mutually transforming, with vulnerable people, expecially those who are materially poor.
  • a reverent relationship with and caring responsibility for Planet Earth.
