Substance Abuse
I spent a year as a volunteer in our 'St John of God Community Day
Service team', and a further two years with a local medical doctor
in the treatment of people afflicted by substance abuse.
As a result of my involvement I saw the need to work towards the prevention of substance abuse. I got involved in research into the needs in the Perth Metropolitan area resulting in the establishment of a "Home Detox. Program" for drug and alcohol withdrawal with the team working through their local general practitioner.
It has been a privilege to meet and journey with some individuals affected by substance abuse and to support the family members. It is heartening to see them make the effort to overcome their affliction.
